The Prodestant tradition is to name the first born son after your father. That name would be John. One of the daughters made mention of John. But, I have seen Charles and Susannah on Ancestry. I am just not convinced. There is another James Franklin that served in the Revolution. He was from Amherst, VA. They are often confused. I ran across this site while researching and thought I would wish you the best in preserving Captain Franklin's home. Unfortunately, Col. Parkers was destroyed during the Civil War, but the family cemetery was discovered several years ago. Thank you for taking this on. One that came overland with Amos Eaton and established Eaton (Heaton) Station. And then "M. Rounsever [aka Rounsifer and Rounsaval] & family" mentioned with Donalson's party that came by river. There is cool stuff happening with the opening of the new State archives building. https://sos.tn.gov/tsla I admit that source was a sloppy mention. And feel the information came from either the Donalson diary or "Founding of the Cumberland Settlements" I have the print book. http://www.cumberlandpioneers.com/volume1a.html or it was mentioned in "Cumberland Frontiersman" by W Durham. I am looking forward to getting a moment to visit the new State Archives. Sorry to be cryptic on that detail. I am descended directly from George Watwood, who was married to James Franklin’s sister Margaret. I have researched the Watwoods in great depth back to 1166 AD and the local history surrounding them. I have some good information on James Franklin and he and George go all the way back to Maryland. They were more than just family. I myself am, ultimately, named after him. James was not a name used by Watwoods prior to George’s children. additionally, Franklin is a very common middle name and occasional first name thereafter. Yes, William is most definitely the father of James and Margaret. I very much would like to connect with you. I would leave my email, but this is the internet. The US Congressional records appointed James Franklin on 2/11/1777 to sign continental currency (revolutionary war era paper money used to finance the revolution), and he is known to have signed some with the issue date of 11/2/1776. It is not unusual for the appointment date to be later than the issue date because many bills from previous issues were signed at a later time. In any case, if you need images of some of these bills with the J Franklin signature, I can supply them. My personal interest is understanding and determining whether the signature on these bills is the same Captain James Franklin whose grave is being restored. I am not a Facebook nor LinkedIn user, but if you need to contact me, you can use my email address which is fossilguy@att.net. At this point I would conclude he is related. Possible he is James seniors brother or cousin. While I have found no conclusive evidence they are connected beyond the fact they run parallel to all things Franklin in Sumner and Trousdale County, the Richard Franklin line can be traced back to the same area of Maryland where James is born. And they route the same route of migration. They are neighbors to the Lauderdales. Names are reused. But, I believe Richard arrived in the Cumberland after 1805 around the same time as the Lauderdale brothers and the Watwoods. I noticed Richard and his Wife Mary Thompson have a son George W. (1827-1893). If George is named for his uncle George Watwood, married to Margaret Franklin, that would be a solid connection.<br />LynFHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08551483094321963993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5925082965091952876.post-10562624137121201362012-09-21T20:25:39.459-07:002012-09-21T20:25:39.459-07:00I have seen a Richard. I stumbled upon it last week-end 2/18/12 with my father when we were walking the property. I thought I had discovered something no one knew about. I researched and found out the property was once owned by James Franklin and family. Not knowing if my research was correct or not I contacted a friend of mine who is a great historian. Told him where the property was and what I had researched. He went to the Library archives and told me that it was the grave of Captain James Franklin. I found this blog on Sunday and forwarded him the information. He was glad the builder was willing to help preserve the gravesite. Again, I live across the street and I am more than happy to do what I can to help your family preserve this piece of history. Please feel free to contact me at betsypier@comcast.net with any request. I've enjoyed reading the blog and about your family.<br />Sincerely, BetsyBetsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16611322971169780660noreply@blogger.com
